I have been trading stocks for years but new to options, if i want to bet against Delta Air Lines?
And trade them on options, and i’m looking at the puts, which do I trade? I’m very confused.
You should not trade them at all until you are no longer confused……..one has to know what they are doing going in and when they are getting out…….
I would stay away from the airlines completely in long term trades…….
How do you like it when people use all these terms and dont explain anything? me either
Are there big online European brokerages for trading mutual funds, stocks and options in most markets in Europe?
I’m looking for the equivalent in Europe of such brokers as ETrade, Fidelity etc. in the USA, who offer trading in most stock markets in the USA and also thousands of USA registered mutual funds, ETFs etc. Are there such online brokers in Europe who offer customers trading in all major European stock markets and also thousands of mutual funds and ETFs from most European countries?
Here are 2 online European brokerage firms that should meet your needs: www.internaxx.lu & www.swissquote.ch
How is historical volatility useful when trading stock options?
I guess my real question is: how is historical volatility useful in combination with implied volatility?
I realize that implied volatility is important in determining whether or not options are over-priced or under-priced.
When I calculate the implied volatility of an option, do I then need to compare it to the option’s historical volatility OR do I need to compare the option’s implied volatility to what the implied volatility has historically been for that option (thereby not using historical volatility rather historical values of implied volatility)?
HV measures past price movements while IV measures expected prices by means of estimates. Learning these two can actually help traders in knowing when and how to invest, thus gaining more profits.
One of the most common types of HV is Statistical Volatility, where underlying assets and its value are determined over a definite period or number of days. ‘Finite and Adjustable’- these are what SV naturally means, as time averages and momentum regarding options are being considered.
As for IV or Implied Volatility, price movements are further identified using varied estimates. Meaning, these estimates refer to the expectations of market traders themselves. The so-called ‘bid-ask’ estimates are also considered in IV, where buyers and sellers may impact the value of said underlying assets.
What Are The Best Option Trading Strategies For Trading Options In The Stock Market?
I’ve heard of many different stock option trading strategies and would like to know which are the best ones to use. If you’ve had experience with any, please share your results in general.
To be successful at trading options in the stock market, you’ll need practice. The best way to get practice is through paper trading, that’s where you follow a stock and pretend you are actually putting trades in and then taking them out, hopefully for a profit.
You can also find books on the subject, like on amazon or barnes and noble. You’ll need a good foundation on the basics. There are also different strategies when it comes to trading options so you’ll need to learn those first as well.
For more advanced ways on how to trade options, there are sites that offer guidance. The advantage with these sites is that they will take you beyond the basics and offer you a better chance at higher returns on your trades.
I’ve listed some sites below that you can check out, they are for information purposes only and not a recommendation. However, you will learn a little more than what you can get from reading books.
http://www.stockoptiontradingsystems.com
http://optionsexpress.stockoptiontradingsystems.com
http://tradeking.stockoptiontradingsystems.com
I think if you start your learning this way, you will be able to succeed in trading options. Others have done it so there’s no reason why you can’t learn how to do it too.
Hope that helps and good luck!

Trading stock options?
Are you trading stock options? Just buying puts and calls or more advanced strategies?
At the moment, just buying puts on junk that’s bombing and riding it down.
In the past I have done buy-writes and straddles.
I’m also looking for some promising vertical credit spreads.
So many "Experts" offering courses in Options, Forex & Stocks trading, Fees are exorbitant, who is making $?
Forget those courses. If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.
A guy in France just lost 7 billion. People lose their shirts every single day because they are going into options, forex, etc., without knowing what they are doing.
Get a good beginners stock trading book, and plan on making money over the long term. That money you spent on a course would be better spent on some decent stocks.
But, if you have not invested in an IRA, 401K or Index Funds first, you have no business buying individual stocks.
Are gains or losses from stock options trading reportable as capitol gains / losses, or are they exempt ?
Almost April, so, time to think about doing my tax returns lol. Just looked at my brokers statement & it shows my stock options trades listed as "not reportable". This does not make sense to me, wouldn’t they be listed as/for capitol gains (or losses) the same as stock trades ???
they are reportable…and can be very complicated depending on the type of options they were…may need professional help.
How can I trade options on foreign stocks?
I want to trade options on a stock that is listed on the London stock exchange. Ameritrade and E-Trade don’t offer such a service. Do I have to open an account with a brokerage based in a foreign country or what? If so, can you recommend such a brokerage? Thanks.
You are not completely out of luck, though for the life of me I do not know why you would want to do this other than maybe a play on the drop in the value of the dollar.
Here are some of your options.
Buy options on foreign etfs. Here are some examples
EWJ the Japan index fund has options
EEM emerging markets index fund has options
EWZ Brazil market index fund has options
IEV Europe market index fund has options
ILF Latin America market index fund has options but they are not traded much.
The rest of the index funds do not have enough liquidity.
There is also the option of trading options on foreign stocks traded in the U S markets.
For example CHL has options.
SAY has options
and many others.
